Normally all drivers know on which side of their car they have the fuel tank cap and, therefore, where they should be located at the pump when they stop at the gas station to refuel. However, it can happen, especially in people who use more than one car, when a rental car is used or when it is new, that we have doubts or we are not directly aware of it. Well, you may not know it, but you will not need to get out of the car to check it. You have the answer in the scorecard.
There is a very simple trick, a rule that is fulfilled in practically all modern automobiles, although there are some very specific exceptions. To find the mouth of the fuel tank, we just have to look for the pump icon in the control Panel, where speed and revolutions appear. It is usually found, obviously, very close to the needle or the digital indicator that shows us the tank load.
The gasoline icon indicates that the fuel tank is on the left.
This icon is usually accompanied by an arrow, or a triangle, which indicates exactly the side on which the tank lid is located and, therefore, the position in which the nozzle has to be placed to refuel. If the little arrow is on the right, the loading mouth will be on the right, and therefore we have to place our car to the left of the pump. If the little arrow is on the left, the loading mouth will be on the left, and therefore we have to place our car to the right of the pump.
There is also the option that there is no arrow to indicate the side, but that the pump icon is more to the left or more to the right in our panel. That position will give us the key to stop on the right side.
The gasoline icon indicates that the fuel tank is on the right.
