How you can improve the quality of your tap water

Bottled water or tap water? This dilemma affects many parts of Spain, where tap water varies considerably depending on the autonomous community in which you live. However, it is important to clarify that both are equally valid options, at least from the point of view of safety and quality.

In fact, 99% of tap water in our country is tested and it is considered optimal for consumption, as they are in charge of verifying specialized organisms such as the Ministry of Health and Consumption, the supplying companies, the sanitary authorities, the city council or the owners of the facilities that supply each property.

However, although the water itself is of the highest quality, some external agents can harm it in this sense, motivating the rejection of part of the population. We talk about the corrosion problems, the leaks, the amount of lime and minerals or the presence of bacteria or microorganisms in the pipes. Fortunately, there are many solutions available to ensure that the water you drink at home is safe and as pure as possible. Take note!

Descaling treatment

This device is responsible for remove excess calcium and magnesium which, at high levels, cause the water to taste. They work by ion exchange resins, which replace both compounds with sodium, whose salts do not become embedded in the pipes and, therefore, are beneficial for the health and good condition of electrical appliances.

Inverse osmosis

This system installs in the sink and consists of filtering the water through membranes that kill bacteria, sediments and pollutants that may be in the liquid. In addition, as the natural minerals are also left behind after the process, the taste of the water is much better.

In this case, the filter is placed at the entrance of the home, more specifically in a point near the stopcock. Thus fights excess lime from the source of the water, which will not only improve the taste of the same, but will also avoid future problems related to this compound.

Active carbon filters

Did you know that activated carbon filters and purifies the water when does it flow through it? There are two types of systems: one made from activated carbon blocks and the other from granulated activated carbon. Both remove microorganisms from the water and improve its taste and aroma. In addition, there are also some models that retain harmful substances such as mercury, lead, or volatile organic compounds.

The operation of the stills is a bit more complex, but their installation does not require the help of a professional. This method heats water to create steam, which then condenses into pure water removing impurities, minerals and traces of oxygen.
