Of course the first thing is grow your own luffa seeds, available at any herbalist or specialty store. In principle they do not require any special care, although they are plants very sensitive to cold, so they usually need a temperature higher than 20ºC, more typical of the months before summer. And they are usually watered every week with plenty of water.
The normal thing is that they reach two meters in height and that on each plant grow between two and four fruits, dark green in color and similar in appearance to zucchini. At this point, when the luffa specimens look big and mature, now is the time to transform them to obtain your long-awaited vegetable sponge.
- First of all, you must collect them and leave them in a dry and warm place so that dry completely.
- Later, peel off the skin carefully and remove the seeds that may remain inside. But do not throw them in the trash, they will help you grow more plants in the future and thus increase your reserve of sponges.
