How to defrost the freezer quickly step by step

How long have you not defrosted your freezer? If your answer is more than a year, it is time for you to get to it, since it is advisable to do it every season. Here’s how to do it step by step.

Although there are many refrigerators in which this process can already be done automatically, there are many others in which it cannot. For the latter, we have a guide to do it correctly.

In the same way that we must clean the refrigerator frequently, we also have to do it with the freezer. These are two spaces in which we store large amounts of food, although we do not always do it correctly and liquids are spilled, odors are generated or food is spoiled by generating fungi. Thus, frequent cleaning is essential for our health.

If you see that your freezer is accumulating frost you should defrost it as soon as possible and remove it since, otherwise, your electricity bill could increase considerably.

Ideally, defrost the freezer a couple of times a year. To do this, the first thing you should do is organize the food that you have stored both in the freezer and in the fridge the days before to spend them and thus avoid throwing anything away or something that could spoil Once both spaces are emptied, you can clean them thoroughly. And how to do it?

According to the Organization of Consumers and Users, the first thing we must do is unplug this appliance and put towels and washcloths on the floor around the refrigerator as ice and water may drip.

To remove the frost you can: either do it manually with a spatula or a cloth with hot water, or by leaving the freezer open and letting it thaw on its own.

Next, you should check if your appliance has any type of defrosted water drain to be able to use it.

Finally, once without ice, it is time to thoroughly clean the entire space and then dry everything well.

Once all these steps have been carried out, it is time to plug the freezer back in and wait a while until the temperature is correct again to start introducing food.

Don’t wait for ice

Even if your freezer does not have ice, you should also clean it frequently. In this case, it will be easier and faster. We will simply have to take the food out of the freezer and start cleaning.

To eliminate bad odors and disinfect properly we can use baking soda. To do this, make a mixture of water with bicarbonate and moisten a cloth in it for a deep cleaning. Rinse the cloth to remove the mixture and dry well.

If it’s easier for you, you can always remove the shelves and drawers and clean them in the sink.
